This year, we’re putting a fresh focus on helping every Austin Innovator grow in character through our ROOTS to SUCCESS program. Each month, our whole school will focus on a different ROOTS skill, beginning this month with RESPECT.

All students will explore the monthly skill through classroom counseling lessons, announcements on the Morning Buzz, schoolwide activities, and everyday conversations across our school.

Each month, teachers will also recognize students who demonstrate or show meaningful growth in our ROOTS skill as our ROOTS Students of the Month.

Our goal is simple: to help our students grow into kind, capable, confident young people who make a positive difference in their school and community.

❤️ August Focus: RESPECT
The way we treat each other matters.

💙 Please join us in welcoming our new school nurse!🩺

We are so excited to have Nurse Davis join the Austin family! Our students are already excited to get to know her and are looking forward to seeing her around campus. We know she will be a wonderful addition to our school community and will help keep our students happy, healthy, and ready to learn!

From Nurse Davis: "Hello, Mary B. Austin family! I am excited to join Mary B. Austin Elementary as your School Nurse. I recently transitioned from Augusta Evans Special School, where I had the privilege of caring for students with a wide range of health and medical needs. I am a Registered Nurse and hold both a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing with a focus in Leadership and Organizational Management.
As a school nurse, my goal is to provide a safe, caring, and welcoming environment where students feel comfortable coming to First Aid when they need help. I am passionate about supporting the health and well-being of our students so they can remain healthy, safe, and ready to learn. I also look forward to partnering with our parents, teachers, administrators, and staff to help meet the individual health needs of every child in my care.
Outside of nursing, I am a wife and proud mother who enjoys spending time with my family, traveling, serving in my church, and encouraging others through my faith. I truly have a heart for helping people and making a positive difference wherever I serve.
I am grateful for the opportunity to become part of the Mary B. Austin family and look forward to a wonderful school year getting to know and caring for our students and families. I am excited for all that this new chapter will bring!"

🌟 Let's Welcome Another New Face to the Hive! 🌟
Our new staff introductions continue! Today, we're excited to introduce another wonderful addition to the Mary B. Austin family, Mrs. Johnson.
From Mrs. Johnson: "Hi! My name is Melissa Johnson and I am thrilled to be one of the 1st grade teachers at Mary B. Austin this year!
Teaching has always been my passion. I knew I wanted to become a teacher when I was in 7th grade after helping a classmate understand a math problem. Seeing the pride on their face and realizing I could make a difference in someone's learning inspired me to pursue a career in education. I've been in education since I graduated my credential program in 2015. I've taught kindergarten for a total of 7 years, 3rd grade for a year, and now 1st grade! I am so excited for this new opportunity to learn and growth with the MBA community.
A little about me: I was born and raised in California, where I met my husband. We are a Coast Guard family and have been fortunate to live in California, Oregon, Michigan, Alaska, and now Alabama. In my free time, I enjoy reading, hiking, and spending time with my family. My husband and I have two young boys and a dog named Luna, who keeps us all on our toes!
I can't wait to learn, grow, and celebrate all the wonderful accomplishments we'll share together!"
We're grateful to have such dedicated educators and staff joining our team, and we know they'll make a meaningful difference in the lives of our students. Help us give our next newest staff member a warm Mary B. Austin welcome! ❤️🐝 💙

We're excited to continue welcoming outstanding educators and staff to the Mary B. Austin family! Today, we're proud to introduce another incredible member of our team, Ms. Earley, who will help make this school year a great one for our students.
From Ms. Earley: "My name is Gabbie Earley, and I am thrilled to be joining the Mary B. Austin family as a second-grade teacher this year. Becoming a teacher has always been a calling of mine, and I am so excited to begin this journey with such a wonderful school community.
I recently graduated from the University of South Alabama with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I am looking forward to creating a positive, engaging, and supportive learning environment where students can grow.
When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy spending time with my family and friends. I come from a big family with five siblings, so there is never a dull moment! I also have a tiny Yorkie named Bubba who keeps me entertained. In my free time, you can usually find me curled up with a good book—especially on a rainy day.
I am honored to be a part of the Mary B. Austin team and cannot wait to meet all of my students and their families."
